DENTON, Texas – Senior Megan Nestor added a national player of the week honor to go along with her American Conference weekly award, being named an Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) on Tuesday.
Nestor's accolades follow a week where she averaged 20 points and 19 rebounds over a pair of games, headlined by her monster performance against Texas Southern that put her in a rare category. She became the third Division I player since the 1981-82 season to post a 30-30 game, totaling 34 points and 31 rebounds to lead the Mean Green to a win over the Lady Tigers on Saturday.
Her 31 rebounds smashed the North Texas and American Conference single-game record and is the most in a game this season across Division I, and is tied for the second most in the last 44 seasons. She brought down 15 offensive rebounds in the game, which contributed to her 34 points on an efficient 17-of-22 mark from the field.
Nestor was one of five players named as USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Players of the Week, along with UCLA's Lauren Betts, Fairfield's Kaety L'Amoreaux, South Carolina's Madina Okot and Michigan's Olivia Olson.
It marks the first national weekly honor for Nestor, who also collected her first conference player of the week honor on Monday. She was one of 20 players selected to the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award Preseason Watch List in October.
The Mean Green hit the road to face Illinois at State Farm Center in Champaign on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
