Tommisha Lampkin recorded her 11th double double of the year in the loss
TAMPA, Fla. — The UNT women's basketball team (16-6, 8-2 AAC) had its five-game win streak snapped in a 65-58 loss at South Florida (15-8, 8-2 AAC) on Saturday night.
It was a tale of two halves for the Mean Green, who jumped out to an early lead that grew to as much as 12 in the second quarter. North Texas led 32-30 at the half, which had been a positive sign for UNT this season as it was 14-0 in games where it held the lead at the break entering Saturday.
However, the Mean Green's shooting woes in the second half helped South Florida take its first lead of the game during a 9-0 run. North Texas never saw the lead again, despite getting as close as three points late in the fourth quarter. Following a 5-0 run for UNT that brought the South Florida lead to 60-57, Desiree Wooten attempted to draw a charge in the lane on Vittoria Blasigh, but was instead called for a block while the bucket counted.
USF held North Texas to 28% from the field in the second half, while shooting 50% themselves.
Tommisha Lampkin led all players with 19 points to go with 15 rebounds in her 11th double double of the season. Lampkin dominated the first half nearly getting the double double in the first 20 minutes of play with nine points and 12 boards. Wooten added 15 points before fouling out with 15 second left.
The Mean Green will have a quick turnaround heading straight to San Antonio for a matchup with UTSA on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
