DENTON, Texas — The UNT women's basketball team will face UTSA Tuesday night in San Antonio in what is a critical game for the American Athletic Conference standings.
The Mean Green and Roadrunners will play for the only time in the regular season with tip off set for 6:30 p.m. CT from the Convocation Center.
North Texas will aim to hand UTSA its first loss at home this season as the Roadrunners are 9-0 there thus far. Should the Mean Green do so, it would move them into a tie for first place in the American Athletic Conference. Sitting at 16-6 overall and 8-2 in AAC play, UNT is one game back of the Roadrunners who are 18-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
The Mean Green will have to bounce back following a 65-58 loss at South Florida on Saturday. The Mean Green lost for the first time this year after leading at the half, in large part due to their 28% mark from the floor in the second half.
UTSA, led by former UNT head coach, Karen Aston, had a 10-game win streak snapped at South Florida on Jan. 29. However, the Roadrunners were without star forward Jordyn Jenkins, who leads the conference in scoring at 18.8 points per game. She returned against Temple, playing 20 minutes in UTSA's comeback victory over the Owls.
The series between UNT and UTSA has been a streaky one with UTSA claiming victories in the last three meetings after UNT took the previous seven. Two of the last three matchups between the schools have gone into overtime, while four of the last five have been decided by one score.
Tuesday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network App with Zac Babb on the call.
