
Women’s Basketball Falls to UTSA, 54-52

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Desiree Wooten's layup attempt to tie the game at the buzzer was blocked as UNT fell to UTSA, 54-52, Tuesday night inside the Convocation Center.
The Mean Green had the final possession of the game in a series that has resulted in one-score games in five of the last six meetings. In total, North Texas had three attempts in the final 18 seconds to take the lead but couldn't find the bottom of the net.
UTSA led by as many as 10 points early in the second quarter before a 10-0 run from UNT tied the game at 17 in a low scoring first half. From there, the largest lead of the game for either team was seven when the Roadrunners led 33-26 at the 6:54 mark in the third quarter. North Texas would take its first lead of the game minutes later on a pair of Aniyah Johnson free throws.
After Ereauna Hardaway cut UTSA's lead to 53-52 with 36 seconds to go, Kyla Deck forced a steal on the Roadrunners' ensuing possession. However, the Mean Green wouldn't be able to take the lead and ultimately suffered their second straight loss.
Seven of UTSA's 12 points in the fourth quarter came from Jordyn Jenkins, who finished the night with 26. The Roadrunners were held without a 3-pointer in the game and turned the ball over 23 times in the victory.
Hardaway led North Texas with 17 points, while Tommisha Lampkin grabbed 16 rebounds, giving her 31 combined boards over the last two games.
North Texas (16-7, 8-3 AAC) will look to get back in the win column Sunday versus Tulane. The game will be televised on ESPNU in what will mark the first time the program will be featured in a linear broadcast.
