DENTON, Texas — The UNT women's basketball team will travel to Greenville, N.C., to face East Carolina Saturday at 1 p.m. CT in the lone regular season matchup between the programs.
The teams have only met twice before, including last season's 4OT marathon at The Super Pit. The Mean Green outlasted the Pirates, 93-91, in the longest game in program history. Tommisha Lampkin had 23 points and 13 rebounds in the game while playing over 53 minutes. East Carolina won the first meeting between the schools back in 2014 at Minges Coliseum.
Lampkin has been on a tear recently as she was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. She averaged 25.5 points and 15 rebounds per game in the wins over Memphis and Tulsa last week. Against the Golden Hurricane, Lampkin had a career day, tying her career high in scoring with 29 points and adding 15 rebounds. The senior forward has recorded 15 or more rebounds in four of the last five games as she chases Madison Townley's rebound record at North Texas.
While she still needs 19 rebounds to pass Townley as the program's rebound leader, Lampkin will become the program's career games played record holder as she is set to take the floor for her 134th career game on Saturday.
East Carolina has been much better at home than on the road this season, posting a 10-3 record in Minges Coliseum. The Pirates are 14-12 overall and 6-8 in AAC play coming off a 63-45 victory over Charlotte on Feb. 15. ECU runs through Amiya Joyner who will battle inside with Lampkin as both rank among the top four rebounders in the conference this season.
Saturday's game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app with Zac Babb on the call.
