Tennis Shines in Singles to Defeat UAB

North Texas beat UAB 4-2 Friday with all four points coming in singles play.
DENTON — The UNT women's tennis team defeated UAB 4-2 Friday afternoon as the Mean Green continued their form at the Waranch Tennis Complex this season.
North Texas (7-9) found its form in singles play on the day, winning at lines one through four to take the victory. The Blazers (11-6) entered the match having won seven of their last eight including their last two.
UAB started the day off with a win in doubles, taking matches at lines one and three.
Down 1-0, the Mean Green fought back to tie the match in singles play, taking a 6-2, 6-0 win at line three courtesy of Stanislava Shulzhenko.
North Texas then won 6-3, 6-2 at line two as Stadfany Nformi gave UNT its first lead of the afternoon.
Lou Chalard continued her stellar season in singles, winning 6-4, 7-5 at line four to advance her record to 11-5 this season. Chalard's 11 wins lead the Mean Green.
Up 3-1, UNT then lost at line six with two matches still being played.
The clinching point came from Gianna Pielet, who won 7-5, 7-5 at line one to give North Texas the come-from-behind victory.
Carolina Laydner led 5-3 in the second set at line five at the match's conclusion.
