INDIANAPOLIS – The UNT men's basketball season came to an end Tuesday with a 69-67 defeat to UC Irvine at Hinkle Fieldhouse in the National Invitation Tournament semifinal round.
The Mean Green (27-9) were led in scoring by senior Atin Wright who finished with a game-high 25 points. The Anteaters (32-6) though, who set the single season program record for wins with the victory Tuesday, shot 53.8 percent in the second half and were 5-7 from deep in the second half.
North Texas' 27 wins is the second most single season wins in program history.
"This year hasn't been just about the wins. It's about playing and being with this group and doing life with these guys," said Wright who made 100 3-pointers this season, the third most in a single season in program history. "That's why this loss hurts most, because it's over."
North Texas' 27 wins this year was an eight-win improvement from last year, the largest win improvement from last year among all American Athletic Conference teams and the third largest among all Texas DI schools.
