
Tennis Defeats Tyler JC to Clinch Winning Regular Season Record

The Mean Green won 4-1 on the day.
DENTON — The UNT women's tennis team defeated Tyler Junior College 4-1 Saturday in their final match of the regular season.
With the win, North Texas (11-10) finishes with a winning regular season record for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign.
The Mean Green were once again shorthanded in singles, withdrawing line six and overcoming a 1-0 deficit from the start of the match.
UNT clinched the doubles point via a 6-3 win at line two from Gianna Pielet and Marina Adati and line three 6-2 from Stanislava Shulzhenko and Carolina Laydner.
Doubles was played out, however, with Lilly Schultz and Lou Chalard winning 7-6 at line one after the point was clinched.
Heading to singles play tied 1-1, Laydner picked up a 6-2, 6-0 victory at line four to give North Texas the lead shortly before Schultz took a 6-0, 6-1 win at line five.
Shulzhenko clinched the match for the Mean Green, winning 6-2, 6-4 at line two to clinch the match victory.
UNT now heads into the American Athletic Conference tournament beginning Thursday, April 17 and hosted by Memphis.
In their debut AAC tournament appearance last season, the Mean Green made it to the second round after an opening round win over East Carolina.
