DENTON — The UNT women's tennis team begins its American Athletic Conference championship tournament run Thursday versus Tulane in Memphis, Tennessee.
North Texas (11-10) is taking a winning record into tournament play for the first time since the 2018-19 season when the Mean Green were still in Conference USA.
UNT is heading into its second AAC tournament after joining the conference last season. In 2024's tournament, the Mean Green defeated East Carolina in the first round before falling to USF.
The Green Wave (11-10) carry an identical record into the tournament and were defeated by North Texas 4-1 March 23 in Denton.
While shorthanded the last two matches, the Mean Green found their stride in the latter parts of the regular season, going 5-1 in their final stretch.
Carolina Laydner won three matches in that span and has not lost a match since March 1 versus UTSA. Laydner is tied for third for the team lead in singles wins, tied with Stadfany Nformi with nine and trailing Lou Chalard with 11 wins and Stanislava Shulzhenko with 12.
First serve is set for 3 p.m. CT at the Leftwich Tennis Center. Live stats and streaming for the match will be available via the tournament central page.
