Women’s Basketball Lands JUCO All-American Mekhia Chase

DENTON, Texas — The UNT women's basketball team bolstered its backcourt with the signing of junior college product Mekhia Chase.
Originally from California, Mary., Chase has played two seasons at Northwest Florida State College.
She helped lead the Raiders to a 32-3 record and the program's third NJCAA national championship in 2025. Chase averaged 13.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 33 starts, which led to her being named a NJCAA Second Team All-American. The team leader in scoring, she posted 27 double-digit scoring games, including her career high of 23 points against Northeast Mississippi Community College.
A first team all-conference selection in both of her seasons at Northwest Florida State College, Chase was the runner-up for Player of the Year in the Panhandle Conference as a sophomore. In addition, she collected a plethora of other postseason accolades, including NJCAA All-Tournament Team, All-FCSAA and All-FCSAA Tournament honors.
The combo guard made six starts while playing in 33 games as a true freshman. She was third on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game converting over 50% of her shots on the year.
Chase played her prep ball at St. Mary's Ryken High School.
