Track & Field Prepared to Host Bill Schmidt Invite
4/4/2025 4:21:00 PM | Track & Field/XC
DENTON, Texas — The UNT track and field team will host the 2025 Bill Schmidt Invite Saturday at the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
Previously known as the North Texas Classic, the name of the meet was changed prior to last season to honor a UNT legend. A walk-on to the track program in 1966, Schmidt became a two-time Missouri Valley Conference in the javelin throw, placing second in the event at the NCAA Championships in 1970. He is the first North Texas to win an Olympic medal after taking bronze in the javelin at the 1972 games.
Originally scheduled as a two-day meet, head coach Doug Marshall and his staff made the decision earlier this week to move all events to Saturday due to inclement weather in the area on Friday.
The meet will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and is slated to finish with the 4x400-meter relays at shortly after 5 p.m. CT. The Mean Green will honor over 20 student athletes during Saturday's meet in a stole and senior day ceremony at approximately 11:30 a.m. Any potential weather updates regarding the meet can be found on the @MeanGreenTFXC X page or here.
LAST TIME OUT
North Texas competed well against a solid field of teams from the SEC, ACC and Big Ten at the Raleigh Relays. A pair of school records were set when Jake Parchman shattered his own record in the hammer throw and Victor Neiva improved his record time in the 10,000 meters by 15 seconds. As a whole, the Mean Green recorded 11 top-10 finishes at the meet.
