Mean Green Have Strong Showing at SMU Invite

DALLAS — The UNT track and field team had a strong showing over the weekend at the SMU Invite, as the Mean Green won eight events and set a pair of new program records in their final competition before the American Conference Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted in Denton in two weeks.
UNT's throwers showed they are ready for primetime in a couple of weeks with a huge effort, as the Mean Green won five of the eight throws events.
The run of success started Friday night when Jason Patrick won the hammer throw with a new PR throw of 62.56 meters. Then to start off the action on Saturday morning, the Mean Green swept the javelin as Akeel Hanchard won the men's event with a throw of 63.28 meters, and Mackenzie Kuehl won the women's event with a throw of 48.60 meters. In the men's discus, Oluwatimilehim Williams won with a throw of 58.12 meters, and freshman Olivia Hildebrand unleashed a new program-record throw of 52.20 meters to win the women's discus.
Williams also took second in the men's shot put and was the top finishing collegiate when he set a new program outdoor record with a throw of 17.87 meters.
On the track, senior Hendrick Hundl won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.81, and Jamari Harts won the 400 with a new PR of 46.53. Another PR and win came from Ayden Thompson, who won the 100 in 10.53.
The Mean Green will now take some time off before the conference championship meet, which will be hosted in Denton at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium on May 14-16.
