DENTON, Texas – With approval of the House vs. NCAA case expected soon and the evolving national landscape of college athletics, UNT Athletics is proud to announce a strategic rebranding and expansion of its philanthropic initiatives. The Mean Green Scholarship Fund (MGSF) will now be known as the Mean Green Athletic Fund (MGAF), reflecting a broader commitment to enhancing the overall student-athlete experience.
Â
This change aligns with UNT's decision to opt into revenue sharing, in accordance with guidelines set by the American Athletic Conference, which include a $10 million distribution over three years. UNT Athletics is fully committed to preparing for this new era in college athletics, ensuring transparency and adaptability as the legal landscape continues to evolve.
Â
"Our mission of Building Champions and Preparing Leaders remains unchanged," UNT Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley said. "We are ready to support our student-athletes in meaningful ways, including revenue sharing, while continuing to engage our supporters through this reimagined giving structure."
Â
"We want to say a special thanks to the Light the Tower Collective and Mean Green Collective for the invaluable role they played in support of UNT student-athletes over the past few years. We ask that any supporters who have made contributions through those organizations consider donating to the MGAF moving forward to help continue to move our mission forward."

Rebranding to Mean Green Athletic Fund
The transition from MGSF to MGAF signifies a renewed focus that extends beyond scholarships to encompass the full spectrum of student-athlete support.
- Contributions to student-athlete scholarships can still be designated to the Mean Green Scholarship Fund, now operating as a sub-component of the MGAF.
- Donors will continue to receive membership benefits—including priority seating and parking—through philanthropic donations to the Mean Green Scholarship Fund and season ticket per seat obligations.
- Support can also be directed to other key areas, including capital campaigns, endowments, planned gifts, or directly toward the operational needs of our sports programs. These gifts do not qualify for MGAF membership benefits, but they will earn priority points.
- For further questions, donors are encouraged to contact MGAF at mgaf@unt.edu.
Introducing the Green Lights Fund

- Â Gifts to the Green Lights Fund can be directed to a specific sport or allocated towards a general fund that benefits all Mean Green student-athletes. For example, gifts can be made to the Green Lights Fund in support of the UNT football program revenue share initiatives which will directly support UNT football student-athletes.Â
- While these gifts do not qualify for MGAF membership benefits, they will earn priority points.
- Philanthropic gifts to the Green Lights Fund will be tax deductible.
- This fund ensures UNT can remain competitive and adaptive in a rapidly changing collegiate environment.
