Mean Green Win First Road Game of Season

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Rachel Roebuck found Summer Brown for a first-half equalizer and then converted a penalty kick in the 52nd minute to give the UNT soccer team a 2-1 win over Prairie View A&M in its first road test of the season on Saturday night.

UNT (2-2-0) evened its record with the victory, which was of the come-from-behind variety after the Lady Panthers (0-3-0) started off the scoring in the 22nd minute, but the Lady Panthers weren't able to muster up any more chances as the Mean Green peppered the Prairie View A&M net to the tune of 21 shots to only two for the Lady Panthers.

A Summer Brown header in the 29th minute off a free kick from Roebuck found the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1 before Roebuck capitalized on a penalty kick on a foul drawn by Rydlii Rives in the 52nd minute. It was the first goals of the season for both Brown and Roebuck, who are the top two active career goal scorers for the Mean Green with their 16th and 11th career goals, respectively. Roebuck's assist ran her career total to 13 – also tops among the team's active players.

"The game was incredibly physical, not what I expected and unfortunately we had a few injuries with one probably out for a while, but we grinded it out and got the road win," head coach John Hedlund said. "The girls showed a lot of character tonight, especially right after a very emotional game against SMU on Thursday."

Sophomore goalkeeper Hicks Bishop got the start for the Mean Green but was replaced a few minutes after Prairie View A&M's early goal by junior Alina Arneth, who made her Mean Green and Division I soccer debut and played the remainder of the match, facing one shot.

The Mean Green will return to action at home on Thursday night when they host McNeese State at 7 p.m.
