DENTON — The UNT women's golf team, who have made four of the last five NCAA Regionals, announced its 2025-26 schedule on Monday and once again are positioned for another deep run.
This season's slate features 10 tournaments and several marquee events, including five in the state of Texas and another trip to Puerto Rico for the Mean Green. North Texas opens the year by hosting the Sam Golden Collegiate Invitational at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth Sept. 8-9.
"We have been able to put together another very impressive competition schedule for this year," said head coach Michael Akers who is entering his 10th season at the helm of the program, which he has taken to previously unseen heights. "I always want to play against the absolute best but now with the .500 rule it's important to be strategic. Hosting the first tournament of the year is certainly something to be excited about. Sam Golden has treated us very well and we are honored to have our event named after him. Oakmont treats us very well and we are preparing as much as possible."
Beginning last season, the NCAA Division I women's golf committee required teams to have a winning percentage of .500 or better against fellow DI opponents to be eligible for an at-large bid to a regional tournament.
After hosting the season opening tournament at Oakmont Country Club, the Mean Green will then compete in the OU Intercollegiate Presented by PDI Oct. 6-7. A tournament that is expected to feature multiple SEC, Big 12, Big Ten and American competitors.
UNT returns to the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos Oct. 19-20, which they competed in last year and faced five nationally ranked programs.
They'll close out the fall semester at the Baylor Brawl on Oct. 28 hosted at Baylor's home course in Waco.
They return from break on Jan. 18 with a dual against Houston Christian in Humble, Texas. HCU was the runner ups in the 2025 Southland Conference Championship.
The Mean Green will go international on Feb. 1 as they will compete in the three-day Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue. It'll be the second year in a row UNT has competed in the Puerto Rico Classic. Last year's competition featured 12 top 50 programs, including two ranked in the top 10. The Mean Green finished ahead of No. 42 Minnesota. UNT returner Bouquet Subsomboon placed 18th in last year's Puerto Rico Classic, nine shots off the leader.
They'll also return this year to the Chevron Collegiate hosted by Houston in Humble, Feb. 23-24. Returner Mason Lewis had the team's low round, shooting a 67 and a 16th finish, in last year's tournament. The Mean Green as a team shot 8-under and finished ahead of No. 33 Iowa State and right behind No. 21 Houston.
The Mean Green will head to the Old Pueblo a month later and compete in the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona, March 20-22, hosted at The Preserve Golf Club. It'll be UNT's fourth time competing in the Mountain View Collegiate in the last six years. The last time they went to Tucson in 2023 the Mean Green placed sixth ahead of three ranked programs. This will be the first time UNT has competed in the Mountain View Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club since 2021 when they also finished sixth.
An April 10 dual against Murray State at the Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Oklahoma preps the Mean Green for the upcoming American Conference Championship two weeks later. The conference championship is hosted at Southern Hills in Brooksville, Florida.
NCAA Regionals begin May 11, and the NCAA Finals are hosted at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California May 22-27.
UNT returns its top four average scoring leaders from last year. Rising junior Bouquet Subsomboon led the Mean Green a season ago with a scoring average of 73.42 and earned American All-Conference honors. Along with Subsomboon, UNT returns senior Mason Lewis (73.69) who is a two-time American All-Conference honoree, graduate senior Malisone Chanthapanya (74.09) who also earned 2025 all-league recognition, junior Katharina Anglett (75.42), senior Mallorie Luitwieler (76.46) and redshirt freshman Reicherin Hanslkie who did not compete in a tournament last season.
They've added freshmen Victoria Georgieva from Bulgaria and Marin Fujiyasu from Japan.
North Texas is in its third year in the American Conference.
"I am looking forward to having depth throughout our roster this year. We have two impact freshmen that will both see time in the line-up," Akers said. "Keeping Malisone for an additional year is another great positive for us."
