DENTON - The UNT cross country team will compete in its second meet of the season on Saturday, as the Mean Green will head to College Station for the Texas A&M Invitational.
Head coach Erik Stevens said he's ready to see a big lineup of eight men's runners take on the first 8k of the season, while the women will be fielding a small lineup due to numerous injuries that have popped up.
The men will run Joseph Wienen, Nolan House, Aidan Shannon, Alan Proenza, Jason Wade, Luke Anderson, Matt Montgomery and Matt Norton, with Wienen, House, Shannon, Montgomery and Norton making their season debuts.
"I'm really excited to put eight men on the line this weekend," head cross country coach Erik Stevens said. "I believe we are in a good spot physically and mentally right now and ready to attack our first 8k of the season. For some, it will be their first career 8k, so we will manage them a bit differently than the front of the pack that are looking to put a solid team finish on the board. On the women's side of things, we are a bit banged up right now with some odd injuries and won't be racing a full unit. The ladies that will be racing are ready and excited to get rolling. My focus is on the back half of the season with the women."
Saturday's meet will begin with the men's 8k race at approximately 8Â a.m., followed by the women toeing the line for the 5k with a tentative start time of 8:35 a.m.
