The Mean Green record first reverse sweep since 2023, defeat LA Tech
STEPHENVILLE, Texas – UNT volleyball pulled off a 3-2 (25-27, 19-25, 25-14, 25-15, 15-10) comeback win over Louisiana Tech to open the Texan Classic on Thursday afternoon at Wisdom Gym.
The Mean Green (8-2) recorded its 16th reverse sweep in program history and first since Nov. 4, 2023, against the Bulldogs (5-6) as North Texas outscored its opponent 65-39 after the second set.
UNT collected 13 service aces, matching the fifth-best mark in a match since 2008, as Reagan Bedell posted five and Alexa Washington added four. Bedell led the match with 15 kills while Washington tallied a match-high 31 assists and 15 digs.
After contentious set losses in the first and second, the Mean Green cleaned up its attack errors and took control of the match. North Texas combined for 21 attack errors in the first two sets but closed with only eight over the final three frames.
In the third and fourth, UNT built quick leads which the Bulldogs were unable to break as Jahniya Jackson posted five kills in the third before Bedell upped her game with six kills and two aces in the fourth.
LA Tech opened the fifth set on fire, building a 9-4 lead before a service error derailed the run. The Mean Green then ended the match with an 11-1 run as Washington posted a pair of aces while serving the final eight points of the contest.
North Texas returns to Wisdom Gym on Friday at 2 p.m. against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-9) on WAC International.
