
Volleyball Begins American Schedule at Home

The Mean Green host Charlotte on Friday, UAB on Sunday
DENTON – UNT volleyball opens American Conference play against Charlotte on Friday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ from the UNT Volleyball Center.
The Mean Green (10-2, 0-0) completed its pre-conference portion of the schedule with the second-best start in program history and own a seven-match winning streak entering the weekend. North Texas will also host UAB (7-5, 0-0) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the UNT Volleyball Center.

"I think our team is playing pretty well but we're not playing perfectly," head coach Dave Fleming said. "Even though we are 10-2, we still want to get in the gym and get better. There's a lot of areas where we can improve but I think the team's done a really good job to this point."

- UNT holds a 9-2 lead in the all-time series against the 49ers, including a seven-match winning streak which dates back to Oct. 23, 2016

- Setter Alexa Washington posted 14 assists and seven digs in last year's match while middle blocker Ryann Vik dropped five kills on seven attacks

- After dropping its first two sets to LA Tech, the Mean Green won its final nine sets of the tournament with a reverse sweep of the Bulldogs, and a pair of three-set wins over the Lady Lions and Texans to close the weekend
- Middle blocker Loredana Fouonji was named tournament MVP as she finished with a .413 hitting percentage on 24 kills and 12 total blocks
- Outside hitter Reagan Bedell was named all-tournament team as she led the Mean Green with 41 kills, 92 attacks and 50.5 points
- Washington impressed as she drew her first career starts at opposite hitter against LA Tech and UAPB
- For the weekend, Washington tallied 68 assists, 25 digs, six aces and nine kills – including seven kills on 14 attacks against the Bulldogs
- Freshman libero Dakota Mitchell led the American with nine service aces, including a record-tying six points from the service line against UAPB
- The Mean Green are off to its second-best start in program history at 10-2, only one win behind the 11-1 mark from 2017
- With two wins, UNT would tie the 14-match record of 12-2 set in 2017
- Additionally, two wins would also extend the team's winning streak to nine matches, the fourth-longest streak in program history
