IRVING, Texas – UNT volleyball junior middle blocker Loredana Fouonji won American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after she led the league with 1.86 blocks per set in the opening weekend of conference play.
Monday's award marks Fouonji's second weekly acknowledgement this season after she was named to the league's weekly honorable mention list on Sept. 15. She became the 12th different player in program history to win a conference defensive player of the week award and first since Sept. 30, 2024, when Priscilla Jones won in the American.
For the week, Fouonji tallied 13 total blocks, including three solo stops, over seven sets for a rate of 1.86 blocks per set – good for 26th in all of Division I. She added 18 kills on 38 attacks for a .316 hitting percentage as the Mean Green split the weekend with a win over UAB on Sunday after a loss to Charlotte on Friday.
UNT travels to south Florida for a pair of American Conference matches, beginning Friday at 5 p.m. CT against Florida Atlantic (10-5, 1-1) before it meets South Florida (6-7, 2-0) on Sunday at noon CT. Both road matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
