DENTON, Texas – UNT women's basketball will continue its road swing in the state of Florida to open American Conference play against South Florida Saturday night inside the Yuengling Center.
The Mean Green are coming off an 81-56 win over Florida Atlantic Tuesday behind a career-high 22 points from Aysia Proctor in her first start of the season. Meanwhile, South Florida fell to Rice in its conference opener, 70-68.
The series between North Texas and USF has been a tight one since the Mean Green joined the conference in the 2023-24 season. Both teams have won twice with all four games being decided by 10 points or less. The Bulls have won the last two, most recently knocking UNT out of the American Conference tournament in the semifinals last season on their way to an NCAA Championship berth.
South Florida is 7-7 on the season under interim head coach Michelle Woods-Baxter who was promoted before the start of the season after Jose Fernandez departed to take the head coach position for the WNBA's Dallas Wings. The preseason favorite in the conference, USF is led by Edyn Battle, who averages 14.4 points per game and Carla Brito, who was tabbed the preseason player of the year by the league's coaches.
The game can be seen on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app with Sam Kaman on the call. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT/7 p.m. ET.
