DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team looks to get back in the win column as it hosts Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (11-10, 5-4 American) have dropped three of their past four contests by a combined total of eight points, including a back-and-forth thriller Wednesday at UTSA that resulted in a 66-64 defeat. The skid now sets up a key matchup this weekend inside the Super Pit, where UNT has won 13 of its last 15 games against American Conference opponents.
Mekhia Chase had the best game of her first Division I season against the Roadrunners, scoring a career-high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting while swiping three steals on defense. She was instrumental in UNT's fourth-quarter rally with 13 points in the frame and a clutch three with 22 seconds remaining to give UNT a brief lead.
In the frontcourt, Megan Nestor has continued her run as one of the country's most dominant inside forces, including another 11-point, 14-rebound performance last time out. Nestor is the nation's leader in both total rebounds (279) and offensive rebounds (112) and the only player in the American averaging a double double on the year.
North Texas has won five straight games over Florida Atlantic to take a slim 13-11 edge in the series, including all four matchups under head coach Jason Burton. Saturday's game marks UNT's first American Conference rematch of the season, having defeated the Owls in the league opener on Dec. 30, 81-56.
The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Owen Simpson and Brian Burton on the call. Sam Kaman will also provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
