Women’s Hoops Set to Host East Carolina Tuesday
1/5/2026 7:06:00 PM | Women's Basketball
DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team will host East Carolina in the Super Pit Tuesday with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
The Mean Green (7-7, 1-1 American) split a pair of games in Florida to open conference play, defeating Florida Atlantic 81-56, before falling to South Florida 77-61 their last time out. After entering the starting lineup for the conference opener, junior guard Aysia Proctor led North Texas in scoring in both games, averaging 20 points per game for the week to earn American Conference Honorable Mention Player of the Week recognition for the third time this season.
Now, North Texas returns home to face an East Carolina team that is coming off a pair of home wins to open league play as one of four 2-0 teams. The Pirates are 10-5 overall in Kim McNeill's seventh season leading the program and are thriving with an opportunistic defense that leads the conference with over 11 steals per game.
Although the series history between the Mean Green and Pirates is short, the teams have combined for a pair of thrillers in each of the last two regular seasons. The teams have met four times overall and three times since UNT joined the American Conference in the 2023-24 season. The Mean Green have won the last three matchups, which include a pair of multiple overtime games. The first instance was the four-overtime classic on Feb. 27, 2024, which UNT won 93-91 in Denton before a trip to ECU on Feb. 22, 2025, resulted in a 75-73 win in double overtime. North Texas finally got the best of the Pirates in regulation in the quarterfinals of the 2025 American Conference Tournament.
Tuesday's game can be viewed on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. It can also be heard on the Varsity Network app with Sam Kaman.
