The Mean Green won their 12th straight conference game in The Super Pit
DENTON, Texas – Three UNT women's basketball players set new career highs as the Mean Green (8-7, 2-1 American) rolled to an 87-63 victory over East Carolina in The Super Pit Tuesday night.
Aysia Proctor led all players with 24 points, marking her second time setting a career high in the last three games after scoring 22 against Florida Atlantic in the conference opener last week. Chania Price and Mekhia Chase each recorded 12 points to set new personal bests, while Price also tallied her first career double double in the win with 10 rebounds.
East Carolina (10-6, 2-1 American) entered the game on a six-game win streak and unbeaten in American Conference play, but was no match for the Mean Green who played their most complete game of the season. With the win, North Texas improved to 5-0 all-time against the Pirates and set a new program record for consecutive conference wins at home, extending the streak that started on Feb. 27, 2024, in the four-overtime win over ECU to 12 games.
A first half battle turned into a second half rout in large part due to UNT's efficiency on the offensive end. The Mean Green went from shooting 36% in the first 20 minutes to 61% in the second half with just six turnovers compared to 13 in the first half.
North Texas outscored the Pirates 50-31 in the second half en route to the 24-point victory after leading by five at the break. The Mean Green were able to contain Jayla Hearp coming out of the locker room after she had 13 points in the first half and finished with 16 to lead East Carolina for the game.
Senior forward Megan Nestor collected her second double in-a-row and her seventh of the season with 14 points and 17 rebounds. It marks her fifth game this season with 15 or more rebounds, which is tied for the national lead with Eastern Washington's Kourtney Grossman. Nestor and Price became the first teammates to have double doubles in the same game since Tommisha Lampkin and Aniyah Johnson against Memphis on Jan. 4, 2025.
The Mean Green will be back on the road to take on Tulane at Devlin Fieldhouse Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
