DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team is set to face Tulane Saturday afternoon in New Orleans. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT in Devlin Fieldhouse.
It's the third road contest in four games for the Mean Green who split a pair of games at Florida Atlantic and South Florida last week, before taking down East Carolina 87-63 at home on Tuesday. Three UNT players posted career highs in the win over the Pirates, including Aysia Proctor (24), Chania Price (12) and Mekhia Chase (12).
Proctor has been one of the best players in the American Conference during the early stages of league play, averaging 21.3 points per game with a pair of career highs in three games. She ranks second in the American in scoring during conference play and leads all players with a 3-point percentage of 64.7%.
Meanwhile, Megan Nestor has continued to be a dominant force inside as she remains the only player in the conference averaging a double double for the season. Her 14-point, 17-rebound performance against East Carolina marked her seventh double double of the season and her fifth game with 15 or more rebounds this season, which is tied for the national lead. Nestor is also tied for the most offensive rebounds in the country (72) and is the only Division I player with 100+ defensive rebounds and 70+ offensive rebounds.
At 8-7 overall and 2-1 in American Conference play, the Mean Green will look to get off to a 3-1 start for the third straight season, but will have to win in Devlin Fieldhouse for the first time in program history. Tulane has won all five meetings in its home gym, including last season in a 69-64 win over North Texas on Jan. 8.
Tulane enters Saturday's contest at 6-9 on the season and 1-2 in league play. The Green Wave fell to Tulsa 76-73 on Wednesday. While Kanija Daniel and Amira Mabry are the only players scoring double figures on the year, Tulane has six players averaging over eight points per game.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Varsity Network app with Sam Kaman.
