DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team welcomes UAB to the Super Pit Tuesday night in its annual Play4Kay game supporting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
North Texas (14-11, 8-5 American) has won three of its past four games, most recently using a stingy defensive effort to defeat Tulane, 56-47. It held the Green Wave to just 33% from the field and 3-of-19 on three-pointers, resulting in UNT's lowest point total allowed in a league game since joining the American Conference. Megan Nestor posted another stellar stat line with 10 points, 28 rebounds and three steals, marking her fifth 20-rebound outing of the season and 11th double double in her last dozen games. She is now averaging 13.5 points and 16.8 rebounds through 13 conference games.
The performance on Saturday also increased Nestor's season rebound total to 359, just six shy of surpassing Sharon Shelton's all-time program record set back in 1977-78.
Aysia Proctor had an outstanding day against Tulane as well, scoring 21 points alongside five rebounds and a pair of steals. She has been the game-high scorer in back-to-back contests and is averaging 15.1 points per game against American competition. Also producing in the backcourt has been Andi Schissler, who is 13-of-24 from deep over her last five games while reaching double figures three times.
The Mean Green hold a 14-8 lead over UAB in the all-time series, including four straight victories by at least 13 points. The Blazers enter Tuesday at 10-14 overall but are winners in three of their last four games. Junior guard Cali Smallwood is one of the most prolific scorers in the conference, scoring 14.8 points per game while sinking nearly 43% of her attempts from beyond the arc.
The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. Sam Kaman will also provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
