DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team visits Charlotte Saturday afternoon looking to secure its third consecutive win and continue climbing up the American Conference standings.
North Texas (15-11, 9-5 American) is coming off perhaps its most complete performance of the season, crushing UAB by 30 points Tuesday at the Super Pit. Five Mean Green players scored in double digits to complement another stingy defensive effort that allowed just 54 points and forced 19 Blazer turnovers. It also outscored UAB 40-24 in the paint and 17-2 in fast break points.
The story of the game came from Megan Nestor, who grabbed her 365th rebound of the season to surpass Sharon Shelton's program record that had stood since 1978. Nestor completed the game with 16 points and 14 rebounds for her 17th double double and is now up to 373 boards on the year. She needs 46 more to also break the American Conference record, which was set by South Florida's Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeau in 2023.
Aysia Proctor was the game-high scorer for the third straight night, tallying 22 points on an efficient 9-of-16 from the floor. She has been the American's third-best scorer during conference play at 15.6 points per game. Also producing in the backcourt was Andi Schissler, who has reached double figures four times in the last six games while sinking 16-of-34 attempts from deep.
Despite a 12-14 overall record, the 49ers enter the weekend with victories in three of their past four games. The battle on the glass will be crucial Saturday, as the nation's leading rebounder goes against a Charlotte frontcourt that ranks fourth in the country in offensive rebounds per game (17.7). A win by the Mean Green would be their first ever at Halton Arena.
The game is slated for a 4:00 p.m. CT tip-off and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Bobby Rosinski and Kam Roach on the call. Sam Kaman will also provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
