DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team hosts in-state rival UTSA Tuesday night at the Super Pit in the first of its final two regular season home games.
North Texas (16-11, 10-5 American) has been on a roll as of late with wins in three straight games and five of its last six. The most recent came Saturday when the Mean Green matched their biggest comeback of the season and overcame a 13-point deficit to triumph at Charlotte, 82-73. After surrendering the game's first dozen points, North Texas made 10-of-18 attempts from behind the arc and surpassed 80 points for the second straight game to secure the victory. Jazzy Owens-Barnett and Andi Schissler also became UNT's first pair of teammates this season to score 20+ points in the same game with 21 and 20, respectively.
Megan Nestor has continued to play like one of the country's most dominant forces, grabbing 14 more rebounds against Charlotte to increase her program record total to 387 on the season. She needs just 32 more boards to break the American Conference's single-season record and leads the country at 14.3 per game.
North Texas holds a 23-16 lead over UTSA in the all-time series but is searching for its first victory since 2023 after five consecutive wins by the Roadrunners. That streak now gets put on the line at the Super Pit, where the Mean Green have won 16 of their past 18 games against conference opponents. UTSA secured a wild 66-64 victory back on Jan. 28 that nearly saw North Texas complete the largest comeback in program history thanks to a career-high 20 points from Mekhia Chase.
The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Kyle Youmans and Brian Burton on the call. Sam Kaman also returns to provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
