DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team had its four-game win streak snapped by South Florida Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit, 66-63.
North Texas (17-12, 11-6 American) did not surrender a single three-pointer and outscored USF 19-2 off the bench but was ultimately doomed by 20 turnovers and a 16-for-27 shooting effort from the free throw line. Despite holding a one-point lead after three quarters, UNT went scoreless over the game's final 2:01 to drop its first home game in over a month.
"We didn't get out to the best start that we wanted, but I thought in the third quarter we turned things around and settled into the game," head coach Jason Burton said. "The three biggest things for us: gave up way too many offensive rebounds, turned the ball over too much, two things we had gotten better at over the last six or seven games really, and then the free throw line."
Three Mean Green players scored in double digits, highlighted by a 14-point, 22-rebound outing from Megan Nestor. It marked Nestor's 18th double double of the season, which is tied for third most in single-season program history, and sixth time grabbing at least 20 rebounds. Her season rebound total also increased to 416, just three shy of breaking the American Conference record set by Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeau in 2023.
Aysia Proctor tallied her sixth straight double-digit scoring game with 13 points, while Andi Schissler knocked down all three of her attempts from behind the arc for nine herself. Schissler has now made 31 of her last 57 three-point attempts, good for a 54.4% clip that spans nine games.
North Texas closes the regular season with a quick trip to Wichita State on Tuesday. That game will be available for streaming on ESPN+ while Sam Kaman provides radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
