WICHITA, Kan. – Senior forward Megan Nestor became the American Conference's all-time single-season rebounding leader Tuesday night at Charles Koch Arena, but the UNT women's basketball team ultimately fell to Wichita State, 60-55.
Already the program leader for single-season rebounds, Nestor entered the night just three boards shy of surpassing Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu's record total of 418 set back in 2023. She did so at the 7:43 mark of the first quarter before eventually completing the game with 15 points and 19 rebounds. It was Nestor's 19th double double of the year and increased her NCAA-leading rebound total to 435.
A strong candidate for American Conference Player of the Year, Nestor finishes the regular season averaging 12.8 points and 14.5 rebounds per game.
North Texas (17-13, 11-7 American) scored the contest's first 10 points and led for nearly 33 minutes of game time but was unable to avoid its second loss in a row. Aysia Proctor poured in a team-high 19 points for her seventh straight double-digit scoring outing, while Chania Price went 3-for-3 from deep en route to 13 points of her own. For the Shockers, Abby Cater led the way with a complete performance that included 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocks.
UNT now shifts its attention to the American Conference Championship in Birmingham, Ala., where it will be either the fourth or fifth seed. The first round of the tournament begins Tuesday, March 10, and runs until the championship game on Saturday.
