3/10/2026 6:10:00 PM | Women's Basketball
DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team faces Florida Atlantic Wednesday in its opening game at the American Conference Championship in Birmingham, Ala.
After going 11-7 in conference play and 17-13 overall, North Texas received the tournament's No. 5 seed and a bye into the second round. Ninth-seeded Florida Atlantic pulled out a 74-70 victory over Charlotte in Tuesday's first round to advance and keep its title hopes alive.
North Texas is riding a six-game win streak against the Owls and has won 11 of the last 13 in the series. That stretch includes a two-game sweep by the Mean Green during the regular season, both of which were decided by at least 18 points. Aysia Proctor scored a game-high 22 points in the conference opener on Dec. 30 while UNT held the Owls to just 49 in their second meeting a month later.
With a win on Wednesday, the Mean Green would reach the conference tournament quarterfinals for the ninth time in their past 10 tries. UNT has done so in both seasons under head coach Jason Burton and is looking to improve upon its semifinal appearance in 2025. A run to the championship game would be the program's first since 2002 when it was part of the Sun Belt Conference.
Wednesday's game at Legacy Arena is slated for a noon tip-off and can be streamed on ESPN+ with Sam Gore and Brooke Weisbrod on the call. Sam Kaman also returns to provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
