Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season at Wichita State
3/2/2026 4:13:00 PM | Women's Basketball
DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team travels to Wichita State Tuesday night for its final game of the regular season.
Despite a loss to South Florida last time out, North Texas (17-12, 11-6 American) has been playing well as of late after six wins in its past eight games. That surge has propelled UNT up to fourth place in the American Conference standings with a chance to finish as high as third. A third- or fourth-place finish would give it a bye into the quarterfinal round at the American Conference Championship.
Sharpshooter Andi Schissler has been nearly unstoppable over the last nine games, sinking 31 of her 57 three-point attempts (54.4%) and reaching double figures six times during that span. She also leads the team in three-pointers and assists at 53 apiece, making her one of the American's three players with 50+ totals in each category.
In the frontcourt, Megan Nestor has continued to dominate to the tune of 12.7 points and 14.3 rebounds per game. She leads the NCAA in nearly every major rebounding category and ranks top 10 in the country with 18 double doubles on the season, including a 14-point, 22-board performance against the Bulls on Saturday. Already the owner the program's single-season rebound record, Nestor needs just three more to break the American Conference record of 418 set by Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeau in 2023.
Tuesday marks just the sixth meeting between North Texas and Wichita State. UNT has won three straight matchups in the series, including a two-game sweep last season. The Shockers enter Tuesday's game with a 7-22 overall record and 4-12 mark in conference play.
The regular season finale is slated for a 6:00 p.m. CT tip-off and will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with Shane Dennis and Tracy Anderson on the call. Sam Kaman also returns to provide radio coverage through the Varsity Network App.
