DENTON – UNT women's golf head coach Michael Akers announced the hiring of Dr. Scotta Morton as the team's mental performance coach on Monday.
Dr. Morton comes to North Texas after previously serving as the assistant athletic director of mental performance and psychological services from the University of Missouri Athletic Department, where she served college athletes, coaches, and staff for 11 years.
"I am very excited to add Dr. Morton to our staff," Akers said. "This was definitely an outside the box type hire. Most second assistants in golf are doing operations or recruiting. She will be directly improving the most important part of our sport. Dr. Morton has been working with us for a few years and is very gifted in her craft. Our student-athletes are very excited to get more time with her."
While at Missouri, Dr. Morton led a team of three mental performance coaches providing performance and sport psychology services in a comprehensive and integrated sport psychology delivery program. Her work is grounded in strong personal, team development and holistic well-being.
Dr. Morton received her PhD in Sport Psychology from the University of Missouri in 2014 and was trained and mentored by legendary sport psychology practitioner and founder of Missouri Institute for Positive Coaching, Dr. Rick Mcguire. A product of Bozeman, Montana, Dr. Morton played college basketball for the Montana State Bobcats from 2003-07.
