Mean Green win seventh consecutive home match
DENTON, Texas – The UNT tennis team continued its strong 2026 season Friday, taking down UTSA 4-2 to pick up their 13th victory of the season, matching the most by any UNT team since 2019.
The Mean Green won the doubles point and grabbed victories at lines one, two and three in singles play to win its seventh consecutive home match.
"The doubles and the top of the lineup today were outstanding," head coach Amanda Stone said. "It was a tough match coming off the big win last week and having a bit of a break. The team handled things and adjusted well to get the job done. Marina showed up big today in doubles and did a great job of keeping focus and doing exactly what she needed to do to get her line in straight sets. We keep getting different players stepping up to deliver and that's what makes our team so dangerous."
In doubles action, the combination of Marina Adati and Ujin Batsukh swept straight through their match at line two with a 6-0 victory. They are now 2-0 as a team in doubles this season.
Then at line one, the dominant combo of Lilly Schultz and Lou Chalard continued to play well with a 6-2 victory to clinch the doubles point. Schultz and Chalard are now 10-3 as a duo this season, becoming the first doubles team to win double-digit matches since Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze.
As a team, North Texas has now won five straight doubles points and have won 10 of its last 12 opportunities in doubles action.
In singles action, Lou Chalard started things off for the Mean Green with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at line two. Chalard is now 8-4 this season in singles action and is 4-3 at line two.
After UTSA got one back with a win at line five, UNT pushed the lead to 3-1 with a thrilling 7-5, 7-5 win at line three from Marina Adati. It was Adati's fifth singles win this season and her second at line three.
The Roadrunners cut the deficit back to one once again with a win at line four but, as she has done many times before this season, Carolina Laydner clinched the match for the Mean Green with a 6-4, 6-1 win at line one. Laydner is now 11-3 in singles action this season and 7-2 at the top line.
With one more win this season, UNT would have its most wins in a season (14) since 2013.
North Texas travels to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane Sunday at 1:30 PM.
