COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The NCAA Zone D diving championships got underway on Monday with the 1-meter springboard, as senior Kamryn Wong finished 12th in the final after placing 11th in the preliminary round on Monday.
Wong finished with 554.50 points — just two tenths of a point behind the 11th place finisher, with the top 11 automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships next week in Atlanta. But, since she finished in the top 12 in the 1-meter springboard, she will qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event if she qualifies in the 3-meter springboard on Tuesday with a top-10 finish.
Wong placed 11th in the preliminary with a score of 275.85 to easily qualify for the final, as she remained the only diver in program history to make a final at NCAA Zones after qualifying for the final in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events last year.
Junior Sydney Guidara finished 28th in the preliminary round, while sophomore Amelia Sharp finished 35th, with scores of 251.75 and 240.40, respectively.
The Mean Green will continue action at Zones on Tuesday with the 3-meter springboard, which will feature Wong and Guidara. Prelims will begin at noon, with the final set for 3 p.m.
