ARDMORE, Oklahoma – The UNT women's golf team beat Murray State College in a match play event 8-0 at the 2026 Bruzzy Challenge at Dornick Hills Country Club Friday.
The dominating performance comes 10 days prior to North Texas beginning its run at the 2026 American Conference championship.
The Mean Green got strong performances and big wins at the historic course redesigned by North Texas alum Bruzzy Westheimer. Senior Mallorie Luitwieler (7 and 6) led the charge. Fellow senior Malisone Chanthapanya (6 and 4), junior Katharina Anglett (6 and 4) and redshirt freshman Reicherin Hanslkie (6 and 4) also put together strong wins.
UNT freshman Marin Fujiyasu (2-0) sealed the 8-0 win for the Mean Green as she birdied the final hole with everyone watching. Needing a chip from 175 yards out, Fujiyasu while standing on the edge of a hill, placed her shot perfectly on the green to set up the birdie putt.
"Our trip to Ardmore was a success," said North Texas head coach Michael Akers. "Sometimes it isn't easy beating teams that you should easily beat on paper. Our ladies really stepped up and dominated. Marin had some pressure down the stretch but came up big. The course was in great shape, and we are thankful to both Murray State College and Dornick Hills. We turn our sights to winning the conference championship. Today was a great tune-up."
The Bruzzy Challenge is named after UNT alum and donor Bruzzy Westheimer. His uncle was the hall of famer Perry Maxwell who was one of the most respected golf course designers in the world. Westheimer helped recently redesign Dornick Hills Country Club, which is his home course and was the first USGA club in the state of Oklahoma and hosted an LPGA Tour event.
The Mean Green entered Friday ranked No. 61 in the nation and are right on the verge of earning an at-large spot into the NCAA Regionals. The 2026 American Conference Championship begins April 20 in Florida. A conference title earns a team an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
