DENTON — Not much went right for the Mean Green soccer team in the first half of Thursday night's match against Oral Roberts.

But after some halftime adjustments and some old-fashioned motivation, UNT was able to dominate the second half and earn a result with a 1-1 draw against the previously unbeaten and untied Golden Eagles (4-0-1) at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium.

Junior captain Claire Niedermeier continued her run of strong performances coming off an American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor on Monday, as the forward scored the equalizer in the 76th minute off a brilliant left-footed blast after Alexis Miller worked her way into the box and left the ball for Niedermeier to take over.

Niedermeier's goal was her fifth of the season in just four matches, which ties her number of goals last season when she was just one behind the team leader, Mia Bernard, who had six. Niedermeier finished the night with a match-high five shots, including three on goal, in 69 minutes.

"I'm proud of our energy in the second half and our commitment to play more direct and press their backline," said head coach John Hedlund. "We found a way to get the goal we needed and outshot our opponent 10-2 in the second half and 15-7 overall. Credit to ORU in the first half. They came out and earned their goal and made things difficult for us. But once again, our character shined through in the second half, especially in the way we responded and finished the game. I'm proud of this group."

The Mean Green (2-1-1) will stay at home on Sunday to face Air Force at Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
