Volleyball Sweeps Tarleton State to Begin UNT Invitational

DENTON, Texas – The UNT volleyball team picked up its first sweep of the season (25-14, 25-23, 25-14) against Tarleton State on opening night of the UNT Invitational.
The Mean Green have now won three consecutive matches to improve to 6-3 on the year.
"Really happy with the offense," head coach Dave Fleming said. "It was a good confidence builder for our setters too… I keep telling my team that I'm greedy. I know the best version of them, and I want to see it more often. We saw a lot of that tonight."
UNT controlled the match from the very first serve as it jumped out to a 15-6 lead in set one and never looked back. After escaping with a two-point win in the second, the Mean Green slammed the door shut the following set with a commanding 25-14 victory.
The North Texas offense continued to operate at an elite level, racking up 48 kills on a season-best .327 hitting percentage. Five different Mean Green players had three or more kills and a hitting percentage of at least .385, while the defense limited Tarleton State to just 25 kills alongside an .086 attack efficiency. With nine matches under its belt, UNT has already held its opponent under a .125 hitting percentage four times.
For the seventh time this season, outside hitter Jahniya Jackson led the Mean Green with a career-high 17 kills. She completed the night hitting at a .517 clip, while fellow outside Lillian Croshaw compiled nine kills on a .533 hitting percentage. In similar fashion, Jocelyn Jourdan added seven kills and Loredana Fouonji needed just seven swings to register five more of her own.
Setters Sidney Soria and Olivia Branum combined to dish out 41 assists on the night, including a 20-assist, 10-dig double-double from the latter. Just eight matches into her collegiate career, Branum leads the Mean Green with four double-doubles thus far.
North Texas quickly turns around to face West Virginia Friday night at 7 p.m. The match will be available for streaming on ESPN+ with James Trietley and Alex Glover on the call.
