Volleyball Falls to Tulane

DENTON, Texas – The UNT volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (22-25, 24-26, 25-27) defeat to Tulane Sunday afternoon at the UNT Volleyball Center.
With the loss, North Texas dropped to 8-5 on the season and 1-1 in American Conference play. Meanwhile, the Green Wave improved to 10-2 overall as winners of their last six matches.
Despite all three sets being decided by three points or less, the Mean Green were unable to convert crucial plays down the stretch to swing the result in their favor. UNT held Tulane to just .189 hitting and compiled nine blocks, matching its second-highest total of the season, but a .044 hitting percentage of its own was too much to overcome.
"They did it right more than we did today," head coach Dave Fleming said. "If you look at the match, I don't think we played great volleyball and we were only seven points away from still playing. So, we've got to figure it out."
Middle blocker Loredana Fouonji was UNT's top performer of the day, producing nine kills on just 12 attempts alongside four blocks. For the eighth time this season, Jahniya Jackson led the Mean Green in kills with 10. She has reached double-digit kills in 11 of 13 matches so far this year.
At the setter position, Sidney Soria contributed three of UNT's eight service aces. That total matched her career-high set in the season opener against CSU Bakersfield.
North Texas now hits the road for the first time since starting league competition, first visiting East Carolina on Friday before facing Charlotte two days later. Both matches will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
