Daniel Salinas was named assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Mean Green Volleyball in January 2022.Â
In 2024, Salinas helped UNT earn its first national postseason tournament bid since 2018 at the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. The Mean Green recorded a 17-16 record with an 11-8 mark in American Athletic Conference play. Salinas welcomed 11 newcomers to the roster including key contributors Anyse Smith (206 kills), Coco Gillett (164 kills), Jayde Harris (161 kills) and Kamryn Scroggins (631 assists).
Under head coach Kristee Porter, Salinas helped guide a first-year roster with 16 newcomers and only six returners to 16 wins and a fourth place finish in Conference USA. Transfers Sh’Diamond Holly, Treyaunna Rush and Aryn Johnson collected all-conference selections while Holly added CUSA Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Before arriving at North Texas, Salinas spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at McNeese. During his tenure alongside Porter, Salinas helped transform the Cowgirls from last place finishers in the 2020-21 preseason poll to Southland Conference Championship finalists in 2021. The program advanced to the conference championship finals for the first time in over 20 years. He coached three all-conference selections and two players from the 2021 all-tournament squad, including UNT transfers Aryn Johnson and Anyse Smith.
Prior to his stint at McNeese, Salinas served as an assistant volleyball coach at Sam Houston High School in his native Lake Charles, Louisiana. He coached ten all-district performers, including the offensive, defensive and libero of the year.Â
He is a graduate of West Texas A&M University where he served as the student assistant volleyball coach. The Lady Buffs advanced to the conference tournament in both 2015 and 2016.
Salinas also coached club volleyball in both Texas and Louisiana with teams advancing to regional and national tournaments.
