Mean Green Swimming & Diving Defeats ULM

MONROE, La. (10/9/01) - The North Texas swimming and diving team came away from the Louisiana-Monroe Relays with a season-opening victory over the Lady Indians last Saturday, 450-438.
The Mean Green won seven of the 12 relay events, setting ten school records in the process. The outing was UNT’s second consecutive victory over UL Monroe, marking the Mean Green’s first-ever winning streak against another school.
North Texas set school records in the following relays: 300 Yard Butterfly (3:06.46), 300 Yard Backstroke (3:07.84), 300 Yard Breaststroke (3:36.18), 200 Yard Medley (1:55.49), 500 Yard Freestyle (4:58.11), 1500 Yard Freestyle (16:08.28), 800 Yard Medley (9:21.63), 400 Yard Individual Medley (4:17.77), 400 Yard Freestyle (3:42.88).
The Mean Green’s Bethany Pipes (Fr.; San Antonio, Tex.) was the only individual that set a school record at the meet. Swimming the first leg of the 400 Medley Relay, Pipes posted a time of 1:01.48 in the 100 yard backstroke. Although Pipes was the only individual to break a school record, North Texas had five of 13 swimmers set lifetime best times.
North Texas will be back in action this weekend, competing at Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Mean Green will be swimming in head-to-head competition against John Brown Univ., Arkansas-Little Rock and Cottey College.
