North Texas Finishes In Second Place; Atkinson Places Third

CALIMESA, Ca.(10/31/02) - The North Texas men's golf team closed out the fall season with a strong finish in taking second place at the 49er Collegiate Classic at the SCPGA Champions Course. North Texas came into the day leading but Arizona fired a final round 283 to overtake the Mean Green and win the title by two strokes.

Zack Atkinson had the best finish for North Texas as he played three straight rounds of under-par golf to finish at four-under par and take third place. North Texas had two other top ten finishes as Brad Besler and Brad Gibson both ended in the top ten with a three round score of three-over par to place in a tie for ninth spot. Besler had the best round of the tournament for North Texas with a 69 in the second round.

North Texas ended the fall season on a roll as they placed in the top 15 in the final three tournaments and had at least one golfer in the top ten in each of the last three.
