Mean Green Lead After First Day Of 49er Classic

LONG BEACH, Calf. (11/1/02) - The North Texas men's golf team is in first place of the 49er Collegiate Classic after shooting a two round total of 574 to lead the tournament by one stroke. North Texas fired a tournament best round of 281 in the second round to skyrocket to the lead.
Zack Atkinson leads the way for the Mean Green with a two round score of 141 after two rounds of 71 and 70 to place him in fifth overall in the individual competition. Brad Gipson is two shots behind Atkinson with a two round total of 143 after his rounds of 71 and 71.
Brad Besler had the best round of the day for the Mean Green as he fired a second round score of 69. Overall he sits with a two round total of 144 to place him at 12th overall.
Thomas Kulcak is also in the top 20 as he shot a two round score of 146. The Mean Green have four golfers that are in the top 20 after the first day. The final round of the tournament wraps up tomorrow with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
