North Texas’ Scott Hines was named Sun Belt Conference Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year following the 2002 Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Hines, who took over as interim head coach early last October, helped keep the Mean Green focused and moving forward. Hines led the team to an 11-10 overall record and fourth place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships. Hines also directed North Texas to wins in two head-to-head meets and to a second-place finish among nine teams at the UALR Christmas Invitational this season.
Under Hines, North Texas posted school-record times or scores in 17 different events. Freshman Bethany Pipes broke three school records at the Sun Belt Conference meet and earned a spot on the all-conference team under the supervision of Hines.
