Mean Green Climbs Two Spots In SBC Tourney Standings

NICEVILLE, Fla. (Bluewater Bay Resort) (4/23/02) The North Texas men’s golf team shot a second-round 298 at the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Tuesday, giving them a two-day score of 599 and pushing them into a two-way tie with Western Kentucky for third place.
The Mean Green shot an opening-round 301 yesterday and entered the second round of competition in fifth place. South Alabama shot a tournament-best 292 for the second round and is the tournament leader with a total score of 590. New Mexico State is currently in second place, just four strokes out of first place.
Zach Atkinson and Brad Besler both have a combined two-round score of 146 and are tied for third place to lead the Mean Green. Atkinson shot a second-round 73, matching his first-round total. Besler posted a 70 for the second round, the lowest single-round score among all North Texas golfers through the first two rounds.
The tournament’s final round will be played tomorrow beginning at 8 AM.
