DENTON (11/15/03) - The North Texas women’s swimming and diving team defeated Arkansas-Little Rock 36-3, but couldn’t get past Tulane in a dual meet at the North Texas Student Recreation Center on Saturday.
The Mean Green picked up its fourth victory of the season and its second at home. North Texas now needs just one more win to tie last year’s school-record victory total.
North Texas got several strong performances and dominated the Trojans from the start. NT led Tulane 25-22 through the first six events before the Green Wave was able to pull away by taking the top two spots in the next two events.
The Mean Green was led by junior Bethany Pipes and freshman Lindsay Therrian with two event championships each. Pipes took gold in the 200 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke, while Therrian won both diving events. Pipes is this week’s Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week and Therrian was named the league’s Diver of the Week.
North Texas also set season-best times in the 400 Medley Relay and the 200 Freestyle Relay, while freshman Jaime Hosner posted the team’s season-best time in the 1650 Freestyle.
The Mean Green will wrap its fall schedule Dec. 5-6 at the Arkansas Invitational.
