MONROE, La. (11/8/03) - The North Texas swimming and diving team dominated Spring Hill College 87-19, but narrowly missed a victory over Louisiana-Monroe in a 57-56 hard-fought battle Saturday at the Indian Aquatic Club.
North Texas took gold in five of the 13 events and collected seven second-place finishes as it picked up its third victory of the season. North Texas gave a strong push in the meet’s last event, claiming first-place in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a season-best time of 3:43.62. However, SHC and ULM took second and third place, respectively, allowing the Indians to hold off the Mean Green.
Jaime Hosner, Bethany Pipes and Elizabeth Johnson all picked up at least one event championship. Pipes led the Mean Green with first-place performances in both the 200 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke. Hosner won the 1000 Freestyle and Johnson won the 100 Freestyle.
Johnson also finished second in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.70, barely missing first place behind Spring Hill’s Kellie Nonnenmacher’s time of 25.48. The Mean Green got second-place finishes out of Katie Starnes, Kathleen McManis, Hosner, Lindsay Therrian and Kara Brock as well.
North Texas will host TCU on Nov. 13 at the North Texas Student Recreation Center. The meet is scheduled to get started at 6 p.m.
