Marin Named Preseason Soccer Player of the Year

DENTON (8/20/03) -- North Texas senior forward Marilyn Marin has been named the Preseason Sun Belt Conference Soccer Player of the Year. Marin, who led the nation in goals, points, and points per game last season, was also named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team.
In the coaches preseason poll the Mean Green were edged out for the top spot by defending conference champion Denver. The Pioneers received five first place votes and 77 points to the Mean Green's four first place votes and 74 points.
Marin was the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year last season and a unanimous selection to the first-team All-Sun Belt Conference for the third straight season. She netted a school record 26 goals, 15 assists, and 67 points on her way to the best season in Mean Green history. Her average of 3.53 points per game was the tenth best in NCAA history. Marin broke eight school records last season in becoming the school's all-time career leader in points, goals, assists, and game-winning goals.
North Texas opens the 2003 season on August 29 against Houston.
