NT Blanks Texas State in 2-0 Victory

DENTON (9/3/03) -- North Texas' forward tandem of Marilyn Marin and Melinda Pina scored single goals to lead the Mean Green to a 2-0 non-conference win over Texas State University in women's soccer action Wednesday night.
Marin picked up her second goal of the season in the first half while Pina scored midway through the second period to improve the Mean Green to 2-1 for the season. The Bobcats fell to 0-2-1.
At the 43:07 mark in the opening half, Marin got the ball on the ride side on an assist from Caree Ridenour, dribbled by Bobcats goalie Hannah Phillips and scored from 10 yards out to give North Texas a 1-0 lead at halftime.
About 23 minutes into the second half, Pina scored on a header off a Marin corner kick. It was Pina's fourth goal of the young season.
North Texas junior goalkeeper Briana Buchanan registered her second shutout of the season with the win. She finished with three saves. Texas State managed to take 9 shots on goal.
North Texas remains at home to face Rice this Sunday in a 1:00 p.m. game at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.
