Mean Green Takes Home Third In Weekend Tournament

The North Texas women’s swimming and diving took home third-place honors after a two-day competition this weekend in
Sophomore Gwen Rourke has her breakout season as she continues to shatter NT records. This weekend, Rourke placed second in the 100 breaststroke as she broke the school record in the event for the third time this season with a time of 1:06.88. Rourke dominates the 200 breaststroke as well with a new school record of 2:23.13, which also earned her a second place finish for this weekend. More can be expected from Rourke as she closes in on the school record in the 200 individual medley (2:12.04). Rourke holds the school’s second fastest time at 2:12.26 that earned her third place in the event at this weekend’s meet.
Other contributors to this weekend’s top finish for the Mean Green include senior All-Sun Belt swimmer Bethany Pipes and freshman newcomer Bonnie Garcia-Meitin. Pipes finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:55.59), while Garcia-Meitin placed third in the 200 backstroke (2:06.44). Both women were members of the 400 medley relay that placed third with a time of 4:01.20 coming within two-tenths of a second to break the school record.
