Mean Green Tennis Downs Tarleton State 6-1

DENTON (4/16/04) The North Texas women’s tennis team won its 13th match of the season with a 6-1 victory over Tarleton State on Friday at Goldfield Tennis Center.
The Mean Green can tie its best single-season victory total in the last 19 seasons with a win Saturday against Arkansas-Little Rock in its regular-season finale. The last time North Texas won 14 matches in a season was 2001-02 under current head coach Dawna Prevette. The Mean Green will also look to improve on its 7-3 home record when it hosts UALR on Saturday.
NT swept Tarleton State in doubles and went on to win every singles flight except the first. Kelli Royer, Ashley Sammis, Katherine Harris, Megan Schmulbach and Ingrid Stockinger all picked up victories for the Mean Green in one of the top six flights. Ashley Touche defeated TSU’s Amber Mosher in a match that didn’t count toward the final score.
Royer, Schmulbach and Stockinger all won their 15th match, which is the most on the team. Every NT player that consistently plays in the top six flights has won at least 11 matches on the season.
Lee and Harris picked up their team-leading 13th doubles win with a flight one victory. Sammis and Royer won flight two, while Schmulbach and Holly Lee captured flight three.
Saturday’s match against Arkansas-Little Rock will be played at Goldfield Tennis Center and is scheduled to start at 10 AM .
